Research has shown that apple pectin is responsible for decreasing gastric emptying meaning that you feel full for longer. The research behind supplementing with pectin for weight loss is mixed, however, adding some green apple which is rich in pectin may result in you feeling full for longer and lowering overall caloric intake for the day. In addition, the soluble fiber found in green apple helps to reduce insulin spikes, which have been shown to lead to cravings.
Lemon is also found to be rich in pectin and is often added to water to make one feel full. Too much lemon water can erode teeth enamel so adding a small amount to your smoothie may be a better option.
If the smoothie is too tart then remove the lemon and add two baby cucumbers in its place.
Recipe
1 green apple cored with skin left on
1/2 cup of spinach washed
1/4 lemon with peel removed
2 kiwi with skin removed or 1/4 cup of pineapple
1/2 cup water or ice
Blend to a consistency of your choice and enjoy!
