Turmeric has been used as a spice and for its medicinal properties for thousands of years. The spice turmeric contains curcumin, which acts as an antioxidant and provides anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin is difficult to absorb but a small amount of black pepper has been shown to help our gastrointestinal track uptake this compound.
Although the amount of curcumin in 1tsp of turmeric is low it can still aid in pushing our bodies towards an anti inflammatory state.
Supplementation with curcumin/tumeric should always be discussed with your MD or ND to prevent herb drug interactions and to discuss safe use.
1/2 mango
1/2 orange
2 slices of pineapple (1/2 cup)
3/4 cup almond milk
1 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of black pepper
Blend together and enjoy!
